About the Canton of Abhainn Iarthair

Welcome to the Canton of Abhainn Iarthair, in the west of the Barony of Stierbach in the Kingdom of Atlantia. This Canton is part of the Society for Creative Anacronism or the SCA for short.  We are a a historical reenacting group who strives to re-create and research pre-17th century history.

The Canton name is pronounced A-van YAR-thur: accents on the first syllables of words; the "bh" is an English "v"; short "a" in both syllables of the first word, as in "fan"; second word rhymes with "Arthur". This canton tentatively covers the area between Winchester, Berryville, Front Royal, and Strasburg in northwestern Virginia.

This list covers most of Frederick, Clarke, and Warren counties, with small overlaps into Fauquier, Rappahannock, and Shenandoah counties, all in northwestern Virginia. It also roughly covers the area between and around Winchester, Berryville, Strasburg, and Front Royal, which forms a diamond-like shape between natural, mountain-range borders to the west, south, and east.

If you live outside this area, don't worry. All are very welcome to join the canton if they wish, or simply to come to our events and meetings.

Please feel free to browse through this Web site. If you have questions, please e-mail the canton's JLIB_HTML_CLOAKING .
